THE PERFECT SEAT

Minh Lê Gus Gordon

In the vein of Rod Campbell’s Dear Zoo comes a concept book from two KidLit stars about an adult and child who go in search of the perfect seat for story time, but struggle to find the right fit before the answer falls into their laps.
In The Perfect Seat, a moose child and father try to find the perfect seat for story time but struggle to find exactly the right one: this one's too wide, that one's too thin; this one's too tall, that one's too short; this one's too fuzzy, that one's too furry. It seems like they will never find the perfect seat... until they begin to look closer to home. Told with the authors' signature wit and expressive line, The Perfect Seat is a quintessential read-aloud book to be enjoyed together by moose both young and old. Minh Lê is the author of Drawn Together illustrated by Caldecott Medalist Dan Santat, winner of the 2019 Asian Pacific American Award for Best Picture Book, and Let Me Finish! (an NPR Best Picture Book of 2016) illustrated by Isabel Roxas, both published by Disney-Hyperion. He is also writing Green Lantern: Legacy, a graphic novel for DC Comics' new middle grade imprint, DC Zoom. In addition, he also writes about children's literature for a number of publications, including The New York Times, The Horn Book, and The Huffington Post. Outside of spending time with his wife and sons, his favorite place to be is in the middle of a good book. Gus Gordon is an author and illustrator of children's books. He has written and illustrated nearly eighty children's books for children. His illustrations are known for their loose, energetic line work, mixed media (most notably collage) and nonsensical humor. His writing has been described as melodic, soulful and quirky. It is almost always anthropomorphic (where animals take the place of humans in the narrative). It is a writing style he believes was most likely born from a long love of Kenneth Grahame's Wind in The Willows. His picture book, Herman and Rosie (Penguin Australia, Neal Porter Books) about two lonely New Yorkers drawn together through music, was selected as a Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Honor Book in the 2013 Book of the Year Awards and has been sold into eight countries. Gus lives with his wife and three kids on the Northern beaches of Sydney. He likes cheese, books and music. And people who like cheese, books and music.
