THE ROAD TO WINTER

Mark Smith

THE ROAD TO WINTER is a story about survival, about finding out what matters most when there are no rules any more. Finn is a shy sixteen-year-old boy who has grown up in wild coastal country. There has been a massive pandemic, which has killed his mother among countless others. His father has been murdered in the ensuing chaos. Finn has survived by hunting and fishing and trading food, and has learned to keep out of the way of the wilders, roving gangs of men who control the country to the north. Then Finn meets Warda and must decide what to do. She's eighteen, and is on the run. She is a siley, as they're called, an asylum seeker who with her sister Kas has been enslaved by a brutal man named Ramage who wants her back. She's pregnant and she's desperate. Her life and the life of her unborn child depend on Finn.
