THE RULE OF THREE

E.G. Scott

Every Wednesday, Victoria, Monica and Laura meet for book club (primarily wine and gossip), while their husbands play poker. From the outside, they seem to have the perfect lives. Victoria's husband, Terry, is a former congressman. Spencer, married to Monica, is a famous motivational speaker, and Laura's spouse Gil is CEO of a large geotracking company. Each had recently recovered from some very public scandals, but that was in the past. Everything seems perfect now. But of course nothing ever is.

One fateful night in July, the façade of suburban comfort and splendor is shattered. Terry is found murdered after one of their poker nights. The same night, Spencer never comes home, and Gil is found shot on the side of the road. The three couples live within walking distance of each other, with a wooded pathway, weathered from use, connecting them. Laura and Victoria are sisters. With that kind of closeness, these events can't help but feel like a personal attack. But from whom? And why?

Detectives Woolcot and Silvestri are called in to investigate. It doesn't take long for each woman to list reasons why one of the others' husbands is the culprit, and to reveal their own deeply hidden connection to each other's scandals. The detectives aren't buying it, and as they dig deeper, the intimate web connecting these couples begins to unravel. Much of what we think we know proves to be very wrong.

Greg worked at the NYC institution Corner Bistro while penning short fiction and screen projects and volunteering with 826NYC as part of their student creative writing program.
