THE SEASHELL GIRL

Linda Finlay

THE SEASHELL GIRL is the story of seventeen-year-old Merryn Dyer who has been helping her mother knit the fishermen's jumpers, known as knit frocks, in their little Cornish village for as long as she can remember. With her white-blonde hair and blue eyes so different from the rest of the villagers, Merry has never felt as though she fitted in. Her mother says she takes after her father, a seaman who died before she was born. But with him gone they have had to work hard to keep their little family going and each day is a struggle. When she is offered the chance of a job in a department store many miles away from home in Plymouth, she seizes the opportunity to make new friends and a better future. With her responsibilities in the store and a romance on the horizon, Merry is sure her life is about to change for good. Then the wealthy Meredith family arrive on the scene and everything changes in a most unexpected way.
