THE SPAMALOT DIARIES
From comedy legend Eric Idle, the fascinating inside story of bringing Monty Python and the Holy Grail to Broadway as the unlikely theatrical hit Spamalot.
This book comes at the perfect time, as Spamalot has returned to Broadway thirteen years after its initial run to massive acclaim with Entertainment Weekly dubbing it as, "a welcome dose of both hilarious deconstruction and old-fashioned razzle-dazzle," and Wall Street Journal calling it a "blissfully funny revival."
In, The Spamalot Diaries, Eric reveals the diaries he kept, and emails he sent, during the long process of bringing the show to life. It includes decisionssometimes tense onesabout which songs are working, or not; jokes that land, or don't; scenes that are in, and then out, and thenafter rounds of threats of quitting, apologizing, cajoling, and forgivingback in for good. In this way, the book is not only a look at the making of a beloved musical, but a behind-the-scenes portrait of how creativeand often hilariouspeople work together to create something great.
A perfect, nostalgic gift for Broadway and Monty Python fans, complete with a few select photos from Eric's collection, The Spamalot Diaries is an unforgettable look behind the curtain of a beloved musical and inside the wickedly entertaining mind of a treasured comic performer.
