THE WONDERS WE SEEK

Saadia Faruqi Saffa Khan Aneesa Mumtaz

Thirty Incredible Muslims Who Helped Shape the World

In this beautiful middle grade compendium of remarkable Muslim figures throughout history, with stunning portraits and illustrations by Saffa Kahn, readers are introduced to many of the Muslim physicians, musicians, athletes, poets, and more whose contributions have influenced the world we live in.
Throughout history - from the Golden Age and the empires of Arabia, Iraq, Persia, and India, up to modern day - Muslims have shaped our world in brilliant ways. Drawing inspiration from the Quran's instruction to seek knowledge, these notable figures reached remarkable achievements in music, medicine, politics, human rights, literature, sports, technology, and more.

Medical advancements discovered hundreds of years ago by physicians in the Arab world are still used in modern medicine. The words of Muslim poets, philosophers, and songwriters are repeated and revered the world over. And today, Muslim scientists, activists, athletes, and entertainers are some of the most notable in their fields.

In this biographical collection, richly illustrated by Saffa Khan, authors Saadia Faruqi and Aneesa Mumtaz highlight some of the talented Muslims who helped make the world we know today.

Saadia Faruqi is a Pakistani-American writer, interfaith activist, and cultural-sensitivity trainer. She is the author of the children's early-reader series Yasmin, the middle grade novels A Thousand Questions and Yusuf Azeem Is Not a Hero, and the coauthor of the middle grade novel A Place at the Table. She was profiled in O magazine as a woman making a difference in her community and serves as editor in chief of Blue Minaret, a magazine for Muslim art, poetry, and prose.

Aneesa Mumtaz is a Pakistani American educator and academic writer. She served as the principal of St. Patrick's College of Education in Karachi and is a founding member of the Society of Pakistani English Language Teachers (SPELT).
