THE WORTH OF WATER
Our Story of Chasing Solutions to the World’s Greatest Challenge
From the founders of nonprofits Water.org and WaterEquity comes the incredible true story of two unlikely allies on a mission to end the global water crisis for good.
When Oscar-winning actor Matt Damon visited rural Zambia in 2006, the last thing he expected was to become a lifelong champion for the battle to end the global water and sanitation crisis. He quickly realized that to make a real impact, he'd need additional expertise.
Enter civil and environmental engineer Gary White. After quitting his consulting job to launch a nonprofit in 1990, he'd become an internationally recognized water and sanitation expert. A chance encounter would set these two unlikely allies on a decades-long mission to bring safe water and sanitation to the world.
Through firsthand accounts of setbacks and triumphs in projects spanning the world, THE WORTH OF WATER illuminates the challenges of building and scaling market-based financial solutions to the global water crisisand ultimately, empowering communities and individuals to make long-lasting investments in their own wellbeing.
Through Water.org, Matt and Gary have relationships with Bono, President Bill Clinton, Indra Nooyi, and Trevor Noah. They partner with brands and businesses that include Bank of America, IKEA Foundation, Target Foundation, and Stella Artois.
More than a business how-to, this book brings Matt and Gary's signature humor and strong storytelling in a poignant, clear, and often funny narrative that manages to distill complex issues.
The water crisis is not going away anytime soon, with climate change posing new challenges all over the world. This book offers an effective alternative to charity for long-term relief efforts.
A portion of proceeds will go toward funding the mission of Water.org.
Gary White is the cofounder and CEO of Water.org and WaterEquity. In 1991 he launched Water Partners, now the international NGO known as Water.org. Today, he leads the two organizations in creating and executing market-driven solutions to the global water crisis, driving innovations in the way water and sanitation projects are delivered and financed.
Matt Damon is the cofounder of Water.org & WaterEquity, as well as an actor, producer, and screenwriter. In 2006 he founded H20 Africa Foundation to raise awareness about water initiatives on the continent. Matt's active participation in the work of Water.org & WaterEquity has positioned him as one of the world's experts on water and sanitation issues.
