Tolerance: rather difficult

Life styles, values, religious and cultural backgrounds are all are more diverse today. How much diversity must we tolerate? Joachim Gauck pleads for tolerance that enables us to live in peaceful coexistence with those who are different to us. Tolerance, however, needs boundaries. It is not indifference or acquiescence, tolerance teaches us to be patient, to respect what we don’t fully condone. To achieve this, however, we need to be sure of our own identities before we can enter self-confidently into dialogue or discussion with others.
