UGLY CAT AND PABLO AND THE PALETA PROBLEM

Isabel Quintero

Ugly Cat and Pablo is a humorous series about two friends who, while both obviously Latino, are very different–one is a cat and one is a mouse.
Their adventures take place in the Mariposa Valley neighborhood and many of the characters are bilingual (Spanish/English) just like the protagonists, and like many readers. Stemming from the belief that good friends make good adventures, and make hardships easier, the Ugly Cat and Pablo series looks to entertain and inspire children and families in the tradition of good friends like: Frog and Toad, Gerlad and Piggie, Henry and Mudge, and Buzz Boy and Fly Guy. The goal for each book is to demonstrate that friends can look, sound different, be different from one another and that those differences, when celebrated instead of feared, can make the world a better place. The stories are also about building community and understanding that we need each other for survival. Isabel Quintero is the Winner of the William C. Morris Award for YA Debut Novel for her book Gabi, a Girl in Pieces.
