WELL, THIS IS EXHAUSTING

Sophia Benoit

Women are aware there's a pay gap and double standards in the workplace and often work twice as hard to please other people even though none of it really puts them any further along or makes them any happier than their misbehaving peers. So why do they do it? Where does that instinct to behave come from? And what does it really mean to "behave" as a woman? Cue writer and comedian Sophia Benoit, who's here to tell the world that behaving is overrated.
In WELL, THIS IS EXHAUSTING, Sophia unpacks where all these unwritten female guidelines come from, why women follow them, and how it's impossible to get it right when even misbehaving comes with its own set of rules. Sharing the frustration that fueled Good and Mad by Rebecca Traister and the honest humor of We Are Never Meeting in Real Life by Samantha Irby, Sophia invites readers into her own journey from well-behaved kid to still pretty-well- behaved adult, but one who is learning to stop listening to all the noise and the unrealistic expectations of what a woman should be and do, and just be herself.

Like getting a gentle "have fun ... but be safe" text from an older sister, WELL, THIS IS EXHAUSTING is an encouraging, upfront and witty memoir for all the young women out there trying to muddle through.

Sophia Benoit grew up in Missouri and was correctly voted "Most Likely to Never Come Back." She currently tells men what to do for GQ where she writes a weekly sex and relationships column, as well as a weekly advice column. She also works as a researcher for Lights Out with David Spade because one full time job is never enough. She has bylines in Allure, Refinery29, The Cut, The Guardian and Reductress. Sophia lives in Los Angeles.
