WHALE IN THE BATH

Kylie Westaway Tom Jellett

It’s bath time, but there’s a whale in the tub and Bruno can’t get in! No one in his family believes him and Bruno keeps being sent back to the bathroom until, at last, Bruno and the whale work out a very splashy solution.
A wonderful story that humorously explores bath-time, one of the most familiar and often contested family routines, and a playful celebration of a child’s imagination. Kylie Westaway is a performed playwright and longtime children’s book aficionado who works for Australia’s largest (and best) independent publishing company. A Whale in the Bath is her debut picture book. Tom Jellett has illustrated a number of books for children and was Highly Commended in the 2013 Illustrators Australia Awards. Tom has also been an editorial illustrator for News Limited.

This wonderfully imaginative story is a real celebration of the power of a child’s imagination... Superb storytelling and lively illustrations combine perfectly to make a great read that children will love.

The combination of Kylie Westaway’s simple, imaginative story and Tom Jellett’s lively illustrations provides an entertaining read-aloud story for young children.

A perennial Calvin and Hobbes situation gets a nice twist from new author Kylie Westaway and a good deal of humour from Tom Jellett’s distinctive, slightly cartoonish characters and interesting angles.

With a great read-aloud text, gloriously retro illustrations rendered in suitably muted shades, a terrific finale and a chucklesome take on children’s imaginations this one has much to offer teachers in the classroom as well as readers at home.
