WISE GUY
A Memoir
In WISE GUY, Silicon Valley icon and bestselling author Guy Kawasaki shares the unlikely story of his life, and the lessons we can all take from it.
Guy Kawasaki has been a fixture in the tech world since he was part of the original Apple Macintosh team in the early 1980s. Few can match the range of his career in startup evangelism, marketing, entrepreneurship, and social media. He's the Yoda of Silicon Valley, a source of timeless wisdom that he shares in bestselling books such as The Art of the Start and Enchantment.
This new book is unlike anything he's written before. It's not a standard memoir, but a series of true stories that have shaped his life, from his childhood in Hawaii, to his early career in the jewelry business, to working with Steve Jobs during the launch of the Macintosh, to becoming an entrepreneurial guru. He calls it "Miso Soup for the Soul"anecdotes that can help you learn the most essential things that Guy had to learn through trial and (lots of) error.
Each anecdote - such as the time Guy was mistaken for Jackie Chan, how he learned when to shut up and when to ask for help, how he discovered the power of other people's success, and how raising four kids influenced his approach to business - is accompanied by a brief Wisdom section of practical takeaways. These asides cover everything from values to humility to finding the balance between living well and living responsibly... and, of course, how to launch and run a great business.
Guy Kawasaki is the chief evangelist of Canva, an online graphic design tool. He is a brand ambassador for Mercedes-Benz and an executive fellow at the University of California-Berkeley's Haas School of Business. He was the chief evangelist of Apple and a trustee of the Wikimedia Foundation and is also the author of The Art of the Start 2.0, The Art of Social Media, Enchantment, and nine other books. Kawasaki has a BA from Stanford University and an MBA from UCLA as well as an honorary doctorate from Babson College.
